Pin Art Portraits by Philip Karlberg

We don't think we have seen anything quite like these Pin Art portraits by Philip Karlberg (so close to Carlsberg, we can almost taste it), and we are very surprised that we knew this was Jackie O immediately (thanks middle school Rage Against the Machine!). Karlberg takes hundreds of painted pins and arranges them to portray famous icons, and uses the eyewear to seal the deal. This takes a bit of time...

Derek Nobbs' Illustration

Derek Nobbs was born in 1980 and currently lives, creates and explores in the Pacific Northwest.  His nostalgic, adventure based tales are made on a heavyweight hot-press paper, and he gives them an aged look using various common things: coffee, tea, whiskey, tobacco and tears. Much like  traditional flash tattoo's and the stories told by old fisherman, Nobb's work appears to be filled with tales of life, love, loss and death.

The Young One by Neil Krug

Our admiration for photographer Neil Krug has already been documented on this site, with our declaration that his work reminds us of a "neo-psychedelic sexual revolution, apocalyptic, Fear and Loathing in the Desert, lost roll of film and now developed 40 years kind of an experience." His new series, The Young One, with model Lauren Marie Young, continues on the same theme, and solidifies why we like Krug's work so much.

First exhibition in Spain dedicated to David Hockney's landscapes opens in Bilbao

BILBAO.- Organized by the Royal Academy of Arts in collaboration with the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao and the Museum Ludwig, Cologne, David Hockney: A Bigger Picture is the first major exhibition held in Spain to celebrate the crucial role landscape plays in the career of this artist, considered the most important living British painter. Bright landscapes inspired by his native county of Yorkshire form the core of this exhibition which, with Iberdrola’s sponsorship, brings together on the Museum’s second floor around 150 works—oil paintings, charcoals, iPad drawings, sketchbooks and digital videos—most of which have been created in the past eight years. This exhibition offers a unique vision into Hockney's creative world and demonstrates his enormous capacity to represent nature using different techniques, as well as revealing his attachment to the landscape of his youth.

PHILADELPHIA, PA.- Elegant lines, bold colors, artistic luminaries: all are qualities attributed to the top lots from Saturday's sale of Modern & Contemporary Art at Freeman's. Marked by the presence of modern masters Alexander Calder and Pablo Picasso as well as prominent minimalists such as Brice Marden and Donald Judd, the sale garnered international interest, with participation from 16 countries and new clients comprising more than 10% of auction registration. Ultimately the sale achieved over $1.97 million (123% by value, 90% by lot) and was well-attended, with highly active in-room, telephone, and internet bidding. Artists from the first half of the 20th century were well represented and Calder was the leading light. "We achieved robust prices throughout our sale and are thrilled that the top two results were both by Alexander Calder, an artist of international import but with Philadelphia roots," shared head of
